Local roofing expertise

Calabasas has its own roofing rules.

Hillside homes, Santa Ana winds, summer heat, and a citywide Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone mean a Calabasas roof has to handle wind, heat, and embers as well as rain. We design every roof around the local code and handle the permit paperwork.

Read Our Calabasas Permit Guide

Class A fire rating

Roof assemblies in Calabasas must be Class A rated. We install the complete listed assembly, from underlayment to the finish layer.

No wood shakes

Wood shake and wood shingle roofs aren’t allowed in the city. We’ll help you choose a tile, shingle, or metal roof instead.

Permit before work

The city requires a reroof permit before any repair, recovering, or replacement begins, and a roof nailing or deck inspection during the job.

Tile weight & HOAs

Tile over 7 lb per sq ft, or heavier than your current roof, may need structural calculations, and color changes can need zoning or HOA approval. We prepare the submittals.

Good questions

Calabasas roofing questions.

Do I need a permit to replace my roof in Calabasas?

Yes. The City of Calabasas requires a reroof building permit before any roof repair, recovering, or replacement work begins, and the permit is issued to a licensed roofing contractor (or a general contractor on multi-trade projects) or a verified owner-builder. We pull the permit and schedule the required inspections for you.

What kind of roof is required in Calabasas?

Calabasas is in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone, so roof assemblies must carry a Class A fire rating, and wood shake and wood shingle roofs are not allowed. Clay tile, concrete tile, Class A asphalt shingles, and many metal and low-slope systems can meet the requirement when installed per their listing.

Should I repair or replace my roof?

It depends on the roof’s age, the condition of the underlayment and decking, and how widespread the damage is. We inspect, photograph what we find, and give you a written recommendation. If a repair will do the job, we’ll tell you.

Can you work with my HOA?

Yes. Many Calabasas communities require architectural approval for roof material or color changes. We provide product data sheets, color samples, and scope details for your HOA submittal.
